13 Children Killed In Train-School Van Clash Over Railway Crossings

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed sorrow at the accident. The family of deceased children has ordered compensation of 2-2 lakhs.

Lucknow (UP). An unmanned railway crossing occurred on Thursday in Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh. 13 children were killed in the train and school van encounter. 8 are severely injured. The train from which the van collided, was 55075 passenger train going from Siwan to Gorakhpur. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the compensation of Rs.2 lakh each to the family of deceased children. President Ramnath Kovind and Narendra Modi have expressed grief at the incident.

There were 25 people in the van

According to the news agency, there were about 25 people, including children, in the van. The age of children is being told less than 10 years.

Incident of crossing unmanned railway crossings

- A van filled with schoolchildren was hit by a passenger train from Siwan to Gorakhpur on Thursday morning at 6.50 am on the Dudhi Baharpura Railway Crossing of Visunpura Police Station area. The van flew over.
- Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway Sanjay Yadav said that the van driver tried to cross the railway crossing near Dudhi. Gate friend tried to stop the driver of the van, but the driver did not stop. Perhaps the van stopped at the railway crossing, which led to an accident.

According to Anand Kumar, ADG (Law and Order) of UP, "13 children died in the accident, due to the driver's negligence, the incident came to the spot after the incident."

The matter will be investigated

- Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said, "I have asked senior officers to investigate the matter. The family of deceased children will be given Rs 2 lakh each from the railway side."

35% of accidents on tracks due to unmanned railway crossings

- Recently, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that there are around 5000 unmanned railway crossings across the country. 30 to 35% of the accidents occurring on the tracks are due to these. Now the work is being done to stop such crossings completely within a year.

Railways had given a public interest petition in 2015
- There are about 13,500 unmanned crossings across the country.
- About five thousand people have lost their lives in 25 years.

50% reduction in 5 years
- Tell that last year the Railway Convention Committee presented a report in Parliament. It said that in the last five years, there has been a reduction of 50% in accidents occurring on unmanned railway crossings in the country.

- It was reported in the report that on the unmanned railway crossing, there were 53 accidents in 2012-13. 123 people died. In 2016-17, the number of accidents decreased to 20 and 40 people died.

- The Committee also said that in the last five years 6169 unmanned railway crossings were abolished across the country. Of these, 1503 were the highest in 2016-17.
